My go-to method of watching video is to stream it to my Roku with Plex Media Server. This Neumi player, however, works so much better, especially with those huge files. No buffering, no hiccups, no freezes ... just solid 4K content! It loads quickly (almost immediately), plays every file format I have, and asks if you want to pick up where you left off if you stop the movie before it ends.
This is all I want for Christmas this year! I can't think of anything else I would rather have.
These simple media players do not connect to the internet. They are not a Roku, or a Firestick. They were created to play media files you created with a camera or computer, or downloaded from the internet. Android TV boxes can do the same things and also connect to the internet, and I've recently used them to play video files, but I think the NEUMI Atom 4K has better capabilities as far as which files it can play, and it can read a larger USB drive.
I have one particular MKV file that is always a problem, even with other media players I have, and the NEUMI had no problem with it. I have not tried it with photos or music at this point, but expect I'll have no issues with it. The on screen menu you get when you press the menu button changes according to the kind of file you are using, by the way.
The remote is a simple one...uncluttered and easy to figure out. The buttons fell solid, and are not mushy when you press them. I thought I read a review critical of the interface you see on the screen, but there isn't much you can do to make it more high tech when only thing the machine does is to find, open, and play various media files.
This media player is very small, yet it has 2 USB ports, an HDMI connection (cable not included, which was not a problem in my case), a slot for SD cards, and an audio/video out jack for RCA jack connections for older TVs. It also includes the RCA connector cable.
For what I purchased it for, this model of the NEUMI is perfect...and the same should be true for anyone who knows what this media player can and can't do.
There is a noticeable lag between the video and the audio. This is likely not an issue with the unit and is a problem with bluetooth audio lag. Mostly I don't notice it, but if there is anything that needs to be synced it become annoying, like scene with someone slapping the table or shooting a firearm.
The best thing about this unit is that it will read the entire external HD of 12TB. My Samsung tv will only read a portion of the HD. Funny. It only reads the three oldest folders. Size of files or number of files in each folder doesn’t seem to be the issue. Once the Neumi unit is hooked up to the Samsung tv, the entire HD is read. Just got to give the Neumi time to read the HD. It takes about 2-3min to read 8TB of files. While it is doing this, the tv will not recognize the hookup. If it still doesn’t read the HD, turn off the Neumi and turn it back on. This seems to help the Samsung recognize the HDMI signal.
The remote is what needs some work. It's very weak or something. I have to make sure I am close enough and pointing it correctly to be received by the unit. I think it uses IR. It's frustrating having to click it over and over again while angling it differently on each click. Funny thing is remotes for other devices all seem to hit the unit, as I can see the red light turn to green then go back to red. So it's not the base unit that is bad. It's the damn remote! I just did a search for "remote" on this item and the number of complaints on this issue is HUGE! Beef up the remote and you would have a nice system.
Annoying issues. . . but other than that it works.
Top reviews from other countries
I didn't even bother to read the instructions and I plugged a 900GB Samsung SSD drive into it and connected it to my Samsung TV and turned it on and it came on after my TV searched for it and pefect picture.
I have tons of old movies and TV programs from way back in the past and this plays almost all of them and it's like VLC player for my TV and ROCK ON!
Just remember to select "MOVIES" on the main screen if you want to watch a movie because if you select a photo or music it will not play them.
So make sure you select VIDEOS or PHOTOS or MUSIC first.
The remote control is comfortable and very easy to use.
There are no batteries for the remote control and no HDMI cable but that was Ok with me.
The ONLY bad thing with this is the Adaptor and it has a 2 flat pinned plug with it and they are dangerous and a fire hazard and no way I will leave that ON when not in use.
The adaptor that it arrives with is : AC/DC adaptor 60 hz 0.4 amps 5V 2000mA
I am now using a spare 3 pinned 5V 2 Amp Adaptor I already had and it works great and is safe
I am VERY pleased with this so far and amazed it plays all those ancient files I have.
WELL DONE neumi ! (so far)
