USB ports provide the physical connection between hosts, devices, chargers, hubs, and internal hardware. The connector shape does not by itself identify the port's data speed, charging power, or display capabilities.

Port shape identifies physical compatibility, but not the complete feature set. Data generation, charging, display output, and host/device roles are implementation-specific.

What determines a USB port's capabilities?

The visible connector is only the first clue. A port's usable features depend on its controller, wiring, USB standard, power implementation, connected cable, and device.
